Ani DiFranco to receive Honorary Doctorate from University of Winnipeg 11/22/13 11/18/2013
Our friends and neighbors to the north at the University of Winnipeg present the little folksinger with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters this Friday, November 22.
The Honorary Doctor of Letters is conferred upon those who have made a significant contribution to the Arts and Humanities. Past UWinnipeg recipients include cellist Zara Nelsova (1985), folk singer – and previous Winnipeg Folk Festival Artistic Achievement Award winner – Oscar Brand, and conductor Bramwell Tovey (1993).
The ceremony takes place 12:30 to 1:30 pm in Convocation Hall, 2nd floor, Wesley Hall. Journalists and the general public are welcome to attend.
"DiFranco has long been an advocate for social justice and environmental sustainability, and she lives those values as both a performer and entrepreneur," said Lloyd Axworthy, president and vice-chancellor of the U of W.
"Ani is a strong example of courage, tenacity and compassion — characteristics that our university holds in high esteem. We are pleased to welcome Ani to our university community and we are grateful to our partner, the Winnipeg Folk Festival, for its significant role in facilitating our ability to bestow this honour."
This past September Ani and her band took the Clay Center stage in Charleston, WV to record the 800th Episode of NPR’s Mountain Stage with Larry Groce along with Red Baraat, Dave Mason and Dawes. The resulting show will air throughout the week starting Friday, November 8, click here for your local listings: mountainstage.org
If you are like us folk in Buffalo, NY and don’t have the pleasure of a local Mountain Stage affiliate, don’t fret! The show will be streamed online in its entirety starting the following week npr.org and on the NPR Music app for mobile devices.
So tune in, turn on, and folk out!
Ani will be presented with the 2013 Winnipeg Folk Festival Artistic Achievement Award at their gala fundraiser, Folk Festival in the City, on November 22. Babe-y Diapers 09/05/13
These adorable diapers came in the mail last week and although we secretly want to keep them we need to send them on so Dante can have the cutest bum on the block.
They are from a California based company named Moraki which was started by ,Charlie, a very talented woman doing her part to lessen the burden on the landfills. After reading about her awesome company we just felt like we should share.
We are so lucky to discover such awesome human beings on a daily basis! So to everyone out there fighting the good fight keep it up- you are inspiring!
A few photos of life at RBR lately. We're taking advantage of this break in touring to revamp the Babeville Buffalo venue site, clean up this office, and work on some fun new projects (cough, cough, vinyl). It's a nice relaxing pace but we still can wait to get back on the road and see all of your lovely faces.
